The country selector field provided by GatedContent.com is an interactive field with many features and integration points. As well as providing a way for the user to select their country from a convenient searchable list, the selector also does the following:

  • Using the GeoIP detection built into all GatedContent.com forms, the selector will attempt to determine the user's country and pre-populate this for them to save them time.
  • As with other fields, the selector can also be pre-populated from sources such as your Marketing Automation Platform (MAP) or previous form submissions from this user. This will override the GeoIP pre-population built into the field.
  • Once a country has been selected, either by the user or automatically using pre-population or GeoIP detection, the country field will change the format of other fields on the page such as the phone input to ensure that the dialing code matches the user's country.
  • As with other fields, the current value of the country selector can be used in rules on other fields to dynamically alter your forms based on the user's location. This is extremely useful for implementing more complex opt-in logic.

The country selector uses a default set of country, dialing codes, and translations that are fully listed out in this downloadable CSV file:

Your GatedContent.com account manager can make overrides for specific countries where required - just raise a support ticket to request any changes that you may need. By default, the country selector will always send the two-character ISO code as its value on form submission, but again this can be altered by raising a support ticket.

Note that the user's country and language don't always align, and each can have different effects on their experience. Please see this article for further information about the differences between gate languages and the user's country.
