Multi-language gates groups can be used to deploy multiple gates of different languages together. The gate group will automatically switch to the correct language depending on the language detection method selected. This is useful when using Web Content Management Systems that automate translation of pages. The same gate embed code can be used in the different language versions of a page.

Set Up Multi-Language Gate Groups

To configure multi-language gate groups goto Setup > Settings > Multi-Language Gate Groups. You then need to decide which language detection method you to use:

  • Browser Page Language
    • Detect the language of the page as a browser would (normally in the tag <html lang=??>)
  • Meta Tag
    • Detect the language from a meta tag in the page HTML
  • Page URL
    • Detect the language from the URL i.e. part of the URL structure

For the Browser Page Language and Meta Tag Options the gate will automatically try to map the language of the page to the correct language that the gate group should use. These can also be mapped explicitly in the Multi-language gate settings area.

Note: A gate group does not have to have a gate assigned to every possible language within the group. If gates are not assigned, cultural inheritance or the group's default gate will be used to determine which gate to display. Also, if specific languages are supported by the website but not setup in GatedContent.com, explicit mapping may be required to indicate which language should apply.

Create a Multi-Language Gate Group

To create a new multi-language gate group goto the gates area and click create new language group and add a name for this language group to help identify it..

You can then start adding one gate per language active on your account. To add new languages follow the instructions found here.

Add a gate to the multi-language gate group by clicking the "+" icon.

If you do not select a gate for a particular language the root language or default language will be automatically displayed. You can manually select a default gate using the slider button in the third column.

When you have added a gate for each language click update and you will see the embed code area appear. Use this snippet using the same method as you would to embed a gate normally.

Note: A gate may only be used in one gate group. Once a gate is used in a gate group, its language can not be changed until it is removed from the group.
